Shape memory polymer ovarian vein embolisation in a patient with nickel allergy

Abstract Background Ovarian vein embolization in pelvic varicocele is usually obtained using nitinol coils. These devices can not be used patients with proven nickel allergy. Case presentation Shape memory polymer a new embolic material available to interventionalists. A patient presented congestion syndrome requiring embolisation of the left ovarian vein. The target vessel consisted two twisted branches, each 5–6 mm diameter. also had known allergy nickel. Considering anatomy and status, polyurethane shape vascular plugs was considered good case strategy. procedure technically successful deployment into branches. Follow-up magnetic resonance imaging at 4 months showed sustained occlusion treated vessels no signs implanted material. Conclusions In conclusion, our an opportunity utilise achieve outcome that may have resulted complications when metallic implants.
